Body to body in a sealed Amsterdam hotel room, where the window does not open

Many of the newer hotels in Amsterdam, around Zuidas, the docklands and the ring road, are sealed buildings: the windows stay shut, and the room's air arrives through a vent governed by a panel on the wall. That changes the weather inside the room more than the weather outside does, and it is worth understanding before a body to body booking.

How a sealed room behaves

A sealed room is cut off from the street in every sense. Rain and wind barely register, the traffic is hushed, and the temperature is held inside a narrow band chosen by the building rather than by you. The wall panel usually allows a few degrees either way, and it is slow to act, because the air is conditioned for the whole floor and merely trimmed for your room.

In winter the air in these rooms can be very dry, since cold outside air carries little moisture once it has been heated. In summer the reverse appears: the building cools steadily, and the room can feel chilly to someone lying still.

Setting a sealed room up for body to body

Adjust the panel as soon as the hour is confirmed. If it offers a range, set it towards the warm end; a body lying still under oil feels a room far cooler than someone sitting in it dressed. If the panel seems not to respond, ring reception before she sets out, because a technician can sometimes unlock a wider range.

Look at the vent. In plenty of sealed rooms it sits above the bed and blows straight down. A pillow or a towel will not stop it, and shifting the work to the other side of the bed is easier than fighting the draught. She works from both sides anyway, so say in the thread if one of them sits in the airflow.

A glass of water on each bedside table helps with the dry air, and so does a bathroom left with its door open after a hot shower.

What a sealed room makes easier

The advantages are real. The temperature does not sag after midnight as it can in a canal house, so a long booking or the eight hour block stays comfortable through to morning. The room is quiet, the lighting usually dims, and the bathroom is dependable, which makes nuru and soapy simpler to arrange than in an older building.

Arriving at a tall hotel

Many of these buildings have key-card lifts and a front desk that announces visitors. Put the hotel's name and the room number in the thread, and say whether you will meet her in the lobby. The window is the usual forty to sixty minutes from the confirmed hour for any central address, Zuidas included. The warm room note says what she checks once the door is shut.

Questions

Asked often, answered once

The panel only allows a small change. Is that enough?

Usually. Two or three degrees warmer makes a noticeable difference to a body lying still. If the room still feels cool at the warm end, mention it in the thread and ask reception whether a heater can be brought up.

Is dry air a problem for oil work?

Not for the oil. Dry air mainly affects how comfortable you feel, around the throat and eyes especially. Water within reach and a steamy bathroom nearby soften it.

Does the house need the hotel's name in advance?

Yes. The address and the room number belong in the first message, and in a tall building the floor and the lift arrangement are worth adding. That keeps the arrival smooth and the time spent in the lobby short.
