Body to body after a cold canal cruise in Amsterdam, back from the water in the dark

A canal cruise is on nearly every visitor's list, and in the cold months it tends to happen in the late afternoon or evening, in a glass-topped boat with the lit bridges sliding past outside. The boat itself is warm enough. The wait at the jetty and the walk back to the hotel are not, and that is where a body to body booking fits.

What a winter canal cruise is like

In winter the open boats are largely laid up, and the covered ones run instead: long, low and glass-roofed, with heating that keeps the cabin mild. The views come into their own after dark, when the bridges are lit and the canal houses show their windows.

The cold arrives at either end. Boarding means standing on an exposed jetty, often in a wind off the water, and the trip ends somewhere you may not have started from, with a walk or a tram back to the hotel through a dark, damp city.

Timing a body to body booking after the boat

Cruises typically run for about an hour. If yours ends at seven, a booking at eight leaves time to get back, warm up and eat something light. Send the message before you board, with the hotel, the room number and the hour you want; the reply gives a name, the figure from her profile and an arrival window of forty to sixty minutes from the confirmed hour.

Turn the heating up before you leave the hotel, so the room is warm when you return. An old radiator is slow, so give it the time the boat takes.

Why body to body after the water

An hour on a cold jetty and a damp walk leave the body stiff and chilled at the edges, even when the boat was warm. Body to body answers that with warmth through contact rather than from the room alone, and asks nothing of the room beyond heat and a bed. Ninety minutes suits an evening that began on the water; an hour is enough if you came back warm.

For couples on the boat

Canal cruises are a favourite with couples, and a couples booking afterwards is common. Say in your first line that there are two of you and whether you want one therapist or two, and remember that both of you have to agree to the booking beforehand. The couples page has the details, the body to body page the format, and the winter evening page the rest of the season.

If the cruise was a dinner cruise, leave a little longer before the hour. A full meal on the water followed straight away by a session leaves room for neither, and a spare half hour in a warm room does no harm.

Questions

Asked often, answered once

Can she come to the boat?

No. Sessions take place in a hotel room or an apartment inside the city, or at Schiphol by arrangement. The boat is for the canals; the warm room is for afterwards.

What if the cruise is cancelled for wind?

Then the evening frees up earlier, and the booking can move forward if a therapist is free at the earlier hour. Send a message at once; an earlier start is often possible, and the thread will say if it is not.

Is it wise to have dinner first?

Something light, an hour or so beforehand, is sensible. A heavy dinner straight after the boat and straight before the session leaves little room for either.
